The “is it cake” memes, also referred to as “cake memes,” are the latest notch on the bedpost of 2020’s simulation-like event sequence.
The memes began as a response to the influx of highly realistic cake sculptures being posted on Twitter. Unsurprisingly, these posts garnered attention and the collective Twitter reaction was visceral objection and light-hearted frustration at the craft.
